Who We Are

WorkXO is the collaborative effort of Charlie Judy, Maddie Grant, and Jamie Notter, who are committed to doing whatever it takes to upgrade the operating system of this thing we call work.

Together, Maddie, Jamie, and Charlie bring 60 years of organizational experience to WorkXO, but the journey that brought them here is anything but typical. Their backgrounds include studying modern art, working in areas of ethnic conflict, leading HR divisions, and changing organizational cultures. They’ve been CEOs, consulted to CEOs, and, when necessary, avoided CEOs. Corporate, nonprofit, government, big, small, local, international—they’ve seen it all.

All three are accomplished bloggers and established thought leaders on the future of work. Jamie and Maddie wrote their first book (Humanize: How People-Centric Organizations Succeed in a Social World) in 2011, the same year they began collaborating with Charlie on what the future of work would look like (see our Manifesto). In 2015, Maddie and Jamie released their second book (When Millennials Take Over: Preparing for the Ridiculously Optimistic Future of Business), and Charlie began to integrate their research into the Workplace Genome™ model he was already crafting. At that point, the only thing left to do was create a company together: WorkXO.

Charlie Judy

Charlie Judy forged a successful career over two-decades as an HR Executive with some of the world’s most prominent professional services organizations; he has traversed the global economy while living and working in Chicago, New Orleans, New York, St. Louis, Brussels, Belgium, and Hyderabad, India. He's a renowned blogger with a penchant for disrupting the management norms to which we’ve fallen prey, and he’s a sought-after expert on simplifying Human Resources.

Charlie believes the future of work is not about better HR systems, technologies, or the next shiny object; it's not about any one best practice, secret recipe, or magic formula. He founded WorkXO to help the world-of-work stop over-engineering our Human Resources and start re-humanizing them. He is a graduate of Tulane University’s A.B. Freeman School of Business and is a CPA, SPHR, and SHRM-SCP.

Maddie Grant

Maddie Grant

Maddie Grant is an expert digital strategist and thought leader who has helped hundreds of organizations engage with their customer base and build capacity for using social media and online communities to achieve business results. Her recent consulting work focuses on digital transformation and internal and external engagement. In addition to her culture work through WorkXO, Maddie is Editor of SocialFish, one of the most visited and respected blogs written for nonprofit and association executives. She is ALWAYS working on her next book, and the two she wrote with Jamie (Humanize in 2011 and When Millennials Take Over in 2015) are clearly just the beginning.

Jamie Notter

Jamie Notter

Jamie Notter began his career in the international conflict resolution field, designing and delivering conflict resolution training programs in areas of ethnic conflict in the 1990s. He transitioned into organizational work, initially as a diversity trainer and consultant, and later leading his own management consulting practice where he specialized in helping systems work through the most difficult conversations. In the end, he realized that no matter what kind of work he was doing inside organizations, it all came back to culture, so that is his focus.

Before founding WorkXO with Charlie, Jamie and Maddie worked together at Culture That Works LLC. An avid writer, he’s been blogging successfully since 2005 and has written e-books on Generational Diversity and Culture That Works, in addition to the two hardcovers he co-authored with Maddie Grant. An accomplished and sought-after keynote speaker, Jamie carries a master’s degree in conflict resolution from George Mason University, and a Certificate in Organization Development from Georgetown, where he serves as adjunct faculty.

Joseph Knecht Chief Technology Officer

Joey Knecht leads the technical innovation and product delivery at WorkXO.  He has been involved with over 50+ high growth SaaS based ventures at his company Proteus and has successfully co-founded two technology firms. He is active in the national startup ecosystem, frequent speaker, and adviser to many startup and high growth ventures. Joey is a graduate of West Virginia University and received his Master’s in Business from the University of Nebraska — Lincoln. Outside the office he spends time with his wife Jennifer anywhere there is water.
